Happy Fiber Arts Friday

It's Fiber Arts Friday and the start of Labor Day Weekend - hooray!  Going over to Santa Cruz to hang out at the beach, check out the new Monterey Bay Marine sanctuary there, and perhaps do a little wine tasting and knitting.  The more wine tasting, the less knitting so we shall see how that goes.  In the meantime, here is what I have been up to:

Knit these socks for my daughter with Austermann Step.  She loves the colors and so do I.  Looks like something you might see in a Harry Potter movie!

A while back, for those who follow my blog intently, you may remember I fell in love with the Modular Afghan displayed in last winter's Webs catalogue.  It was made with Noro's Taiyo and I dropped everything and ran to my computer and promptly ordered the color shown, plus an additional order of the same yarn in a pink colorway for an afghan for my daughter:

Of course my intention was to start knitting these immediately, but, well you know....

Anyway, I have now started the one for my daughter and it has turned out to be as much fun as I thought it would be.  It's been fun watching the colors develop and since each piece is joined as you go along, there will be no sewing together at the end.

For anyone who might want to try this, the pattern is in Knit Noro and there are several projects on Ravelry if you want to see what others have done.

Have a great weekend and check out what others are up to on Andrea's blog.

  1. Love that modular design! Hope to see it in person one of these days.

We are heading up to King's Mountain Art Fair on Labor Day, a local indie designer is going to be there.

  2. Have fun in Santa Cruz at the beach! And don't worry too much about the knitting ... it will still be there once the weekend is over.

Isn't Mr. Noro just one clever cookie? :)

  3. Carol, That does look like fun. Now that I am in a modular groove, I might have to try that afghan at some point.
Thanks for stopping by the fiber arts blog.

Have fun in Santa Cruz! My daughter went to UCSC and I loved visiting her there. I'd live there in a second.

    Enjoy the weekend!

  5. Those socks are perfect! I can see them in a HP movie. The Noro blocks are beautiful too. One day they will look like that photo. Finally, have a great time at the beach. I can't believe that it's already Labor Day!

  7. Hey Carol, I came to see what you are up to and love the Noro modular afghan. I also wanted to say thanks for the words of encouragement that you left on my blog regarding my lost knitting mojo. I have not lost hope, yet.... :P

  8. Wow, Carol, your projects are amazing, especially the Noro mod afghan. I wish I were as productive! I might have missed this in an earlier post, but what pattern did you use for the socks?

    1. Thanks for your kind words - this is a simple sock pattern from Ann Norling that I have used for years. What makes it interesting is the Austermann sock yarn called Step. They have alot of interesting colors and patterns.

Love the afghan and the colorway you have chosen. Looks like it also could be a good use of scraps...hmmmm...
