Here's what I have been up to:<br />
<br />
Hiking <a href="http://www.nps.gov/pinn/index.htm">Pinnacles National Park</a> outside of Hollister, Ca. What a wonderful spot, perfect weather, not too hot, although lots of people and I would not suggest going there Easter weekend as we did.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-sjZLsrhakBs/U2BSIgY4e0I/AAAAAAAAEDY/RiYWYLmh2Zg/s1600/DSCN3839.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-sjZLsrhakBs/U2BSIgY4e0I/AAAAAAAAEDY/RiYWYLmh2Zg/s1600/DSCN3839.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-sjfnu7zm3Ag/U2BV9N2CzLI/AAAAAAAAEEQ/zy5tIcNZ3Tg/s1600/DSCN3841.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-sjfnu7zm3Ag/U2BV9N2CzLI/AAAAAAAAEEQ/zy5tIcNZ3Tg/s1600/DSCN3841.JPG" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-DuFk9xm6fjI/U2BSITRQR9I/AAAAAAAAEDU/tXCMBPu3KUM/s1600/DSCN3849.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-DuFk9xm6fjI/U2BSITRQR9I/AAAAAAAAEDU/tXCMBPu3KUM/s1600/DSCN3849.JPG" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
The caves are really interesting to walk through although on this trip there were so many people it was hard to stop and enjoy it all and take pictures, so here is one from the park web site:<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-hOZzJmmkfGY/U2BTZHFsAsI/AAAAAAAAEDo/EwfcbqtdGe0/s1600/bear-gulch-cave2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-hOZzJmmkfGY/U2BTZHFsAsI/AAAAAAAAEDo/EwfcbqtdGe0/s1600/bear-gulch-cave2.jpg" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Next morning, it was on to Monterey Bay and the historic Cannery Row. This is Monterey Bay Aquarium:<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-wEfZ_sGuPAo/U2BUFHZkNVI/AAAAAAAAEDw/oFjbydPLoa8/s1600/DSCN3860.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-wEfZ_sGuPAo/U2BUFHZkNVI/AAAAAAAAEDw/oFjbydPLoa8/s1600/DSCN3860.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ZKtYu0iJvdc/U2BUKLYcKZI/AAAAAAAAED4/OdS6xUHgTWo/s1600/DSCN3876.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ZKtYu0iJvdc/U2BUKLYcKZI/AAAAAAAAED4/OdS6xUHgTWo/s1600/DSCN3876.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-7QvGczZVpj4/U2BUl06D0qI/AAAAAAAAEEA/WAyeEk008UM/s1600/DSCN3854.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-7QvGczZVpj4/U2BUl06D0qI/AAAAAAAAEEA/WAyeEk008UM/s1600/DSCN3854.JPG" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-SKNFKW7dlXI/U2BVJGz8RlI/AAAAAAAAEEI/9ewSG2ACxnI/s1600/DSCN3869.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-SKNFKW7dlXI/U2BVJGz8RlI/AAAAAAAAEEI/9ewSG2ACxnI/s1600/DSCN3869.JPG" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Next stop was Cliff Drive in Santa Cruz to watch the surfers and enjoy a walk along the path with the Ice Plants. The waves were pretty rough and there weren't too many surfers around:<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-peNNQ4u7JdM/U2BWlyVoJNI/AAAAAAAAEEY/MPcf4wWbrsg/s1600/photo.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-peNNQ4u7JdM/U2BWlyVoJNI/AAAAAAAAEEY/MPcf4wWbrsg/s1600/photo.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Here's a friend of ours getting too close to the edge:<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-PtLxpGkrLHA/U2BXi4qg2GI/AAAAAAAAEEk/0oZYAearM1E/s1600/photo.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-PtLxpGkrLHA/U2BXi4qg2GI/AAAAAAAAEEk/0oZYAearM1E/s1600/photo.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
And, oh yes, the knitting. It was hard to drag my Little Wave along - the sleeves are attached and it is just too big and complicated to bring along on trips, so I switched to an easy top down sweater by Elizabeth Smith of The Brown Stitch. This is called <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/new-concetta-cardigan">Concetta</a>:<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-lZthIg9JV78/U2BYOPRVWNI/AAAAAAAAEEw/TYINEjDu_Wk/s1600/DSCN3894.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-lZthIg9JV78/U2BYOPRVWNI/AAAAAAAAEEw/TYINEjDu_Wk/s1600/DSCN3894.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-x7Peb02U4uQ/U2BYN3gWHVI/AAAAAAAAEEs/M0GxH_ay6KU/s1600/DSCN3895.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-x7Peb02U4uQ/U2BYN3gWHVI/AAAAAAAAEEs/M0GxH_ay6KU/s1600/DSCN3895.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I'm using Knit Picks Wool of the Andes Tweed and have a nice big colorful button in mind for this:<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-h78-t6rvorA/U2BZpMu3Z0I/AAAAAAAAEFA/a3E6TqPLXTU/s1600/DSCN3897.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-h78-t6rvorA/U2BZpMu3Z0I/AAAAAAAAEFA/a3E6TqPLXTU/s1600/DSCN3897.JPG" height="288" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
That's it for now - I hope you are all having a great week!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

First, a short trip to <a href="http://redrocksonline.com/the-park/recreation">Red Rocks</a> in Colorado:<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-fdt9paAN_Jw/U1hgyvWbyZI/AAAAAAAAEBs/5xIIJLZMZAI/s1600/DSCN3803.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-fdt9paAN_Jw/U1hgyvWbyZI/AAAAAAAAEBs/5xIIJLZMZAI/s1600/DSCN3803.jpg" height="400" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-HoyiMOgx3Qw/U1hgynJHWJI/AAAAAAAAEBw/Ml_t-6gQwvU/s1600/DSCN3805.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-HoyiMOgx3Qw/U1hgynJHWJI/AAAAAAAAEBw/Ml_t-6gQwvU/s1600/DSCN3805.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
These pictures won't do this area justice, it is really spectacular and also home to a red rock amphitheater that has been hosting big name musical groups for years. The Beatles were here in 1964 and I wonder what they thought of this place:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-St3NSke5qLw/U1hip84NAtI/AAAAAAAAECI/7l-bOei3kA0/s1600/DSCN3808.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-St3NSke5qLw/U1hip84NAtI/AAAAAAAAECI/7l-bOei3kA0/s1600/DSCN3808.JPG" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-IYdxBXKHEUQ/U1hipsXirqI/AAAAAAAAECE/k1vBgJrpjrk/s1600/DSCN3810.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-IYdxBXKHEUQ/U1hipsXirqI/AAAAAAAAECE/k1vBgJrpjrk/s1600/DSCN3810.JPG" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
When there are no performances scheduled, the amphitheater is open to the public and becomes a giant </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
gym with people running up and down the seating area, kickboxing and jump roping on the stage amongst other things. So much fun! Our grandchildren loved it and the two older ones ran up and down the seats twice! It's a kick to be on the stage imagining the performers there and the crowds looking down on you/them.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
There are some nice easy hikes around here and I could have taken pictures all afternoon:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-hmsjFRzTcAg/U1hlEAMBixI/AAAAAAAAECY/Ccmu5rD4Qvc/s1600/DSCN3825.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-hmsjFRzTcAg/U1hlEAMBixI/AAAAAAAAECY/Ccmu5rD4Qvc/s1600/DSCN3825.JPG" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Well, you can see it's worth a visit, and since they say it is only 10 miles from Denver (it took us about half an hour) it's an easy trip if you find yourself visiting Denver.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
More about my other adventures in my next post, for now here is my progress on my Little Wave sweater:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The sleeves get joined as you start the yoke shaping. Here's a picture of the finished sweater on the <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/little-wave">Little Wave</a> Ravelry page:</div>

Here's grandpa hanging out with Forest, on his left, and a good buddy of his in their classroom:<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-aQ28IKhd0RM/U0h2UMq3eGI/AAAAAAAAEAY/KJFYl6PVe5U/s1600/DSCN3775.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-aQ28IKhd0RM/U0h2UMq3eGI/AAAAAAAAEAY/KJFYl6PVe5U/s1600/DSCN3775.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We listened to a few books read to us by his teacher:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-jK81ZySldL0/U0h3AybIiDI/AAAAAAAAEAg/xUF6RDtNil8/s1600/DSCN3783.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-jK81ZySldL0/U0h3AybIiDI/AAAAAAAAEAg/xUF6RDtNil8/s1600/DSCN3783.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We learned about making Matzah Ball soup:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-lrVEXn11YcQ/U0h3VXCiNmI/AAAAAAAAEAw/N-AyQ_4-luc/s1600/DSCN3780.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-lrVEXn11YcQ/U0h3VXCiNmI/AAAAAAAAEAw/N-AyQ_4-luc/s1600/DSCN3780.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
We ate Challah bread and toasted with a glass of grape juice: Shabbat Shalom!<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-nnJ7uOGIKJI/U0h305eAE8I/AAAAAAAAEA4/z05IWbbFNF8/s1600/DSCN3791.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-nnJ7uOGIKJI/U0h305eAE8I/AAAAAAAAEA4/z05IWbbFNF8/s1600/DSCN3791.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
A nice time spent only with Forest.</div>
<br />
<br />
On the knitting front; still working on my Little Wave. Here are a few pictures:<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-yDfJz4E9wYw/U0h4muJnaZI/AAAAAAAAEBE/cIheRWMUhA4/s1600/DSCN3758.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-yDfJz4E9wYw/U0h4muJnaZI/AAAAAAAAEBE/cIheRWMUhA4/s1600/DSCN3758.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
The first sleeve and when I went to get my camera to take the picture, here is what I found:<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-2o370KaB5a4/U0h5Ae1MnnI/AAAAAAAAEBM/Bi-kuUTcpUg/s1600/DSCN3797.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-2o370KaB5a4/U0h5Ae1MnnI/AAAAAAAAEBM/Bi-kuUTcpUg/s1600/DSCN3797.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Naughty kitty! Not sure why the color is so off, it is more like the above picture. Kitty and I had a talk about how to handle my knitting and here is the second picture of my sleeve:<br />
<br />

What a beautiful book to browse through, and although I imagine most of these copies will take their place as coffee table books, there are some very interesting (and challenging) knitted designs in here. My favorite is <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/anne-of-cleves">Anne of Cleves</a>. This retails for 40 dollars but you can get it for alot less on Amazon.<br />

Here is my work in progress, the Little Wave; I have about 12 inches done and since it is knit in one piece, it is slow going for me. Thank goodness for Audible books. I'm listening to <i>Boy, Snow, Bird</i> by Helen Oyeyemi which is an interesting story that incorporates elements of a fair tale (the stepdaughter is named Snow) into modern day events.<br />

Here are a few photos of the flowers starting to bloom out<br />
<div>
our back door. First are lilacs which I love and you rarely see them in Northern California:<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-CAENFIpZqes/Uyn3cdUTIZI/AAAAAAAAD9o/-rV3DWjcAMo/s1600/DSCN3741.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-CAENFIpZqes/Uyn3cdUTIZI/AAAAAAAAD9o/-rV3DWjcAMo/s1600/DSCN3741.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
A lovely flowering bush of Camellias, I think:<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-zFY41wIMIV8/Uyn3dIghYgI/AAAAAAAAD9s/mv0PcfxdvNg/s1600/DSCN3742.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-zFY41wIMIV8/Uyn3dIghYgI/AAAAAAAAD9s/mv0PcfxdvNg/s1600/DSCN3742.JPG" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Hoping for this kind of nice weather to come soon to the rest of the country. We have relatives around the country and we sympathize with what you are all going through. Here is a picture my son sent from DC where he lives. I think this was taken last week when they had 9 inches of snow. Enough already!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I have been spending some time working on my latest project, the Little Wave, by Gudrun Johnston.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This is knit in one piece so it is slow going, but I am enjoying it:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
There are two pockets that will be added in on the front later. I guess I don't need those stitch markers to mark the side garter panels anymore, but I wanted to show them off because I made them!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-oiyH0YjZ5k4/Uyn7aU0GGYI/AAAAAAAAD-c/plrRVNd4io0/s1600/DSCN3740.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-oiyH0YjZ5k4/Uyn7aU0GGYI/AAAAAAAAD-c/plrRVNd4io0/s1600/DSCN3740.JPG" height="451" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I hope everyone is having a good week and check out what others are knitting over at <a href="http://tamisamis.blogspot.com/">Tami's blog</a>. </div>

Sorry! Don't hate us! I finished a sweater for my daughter which we are calling her beach sweater since it is a Drops pattern with no name, except for the design number, <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/127-33-sweater-in-verdi">127-33</a>. Cute and comfy.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-d1fyK7sjXfo/UyOGkygIgdI/AAAAAAAAD8M/LmoaAQLeEbE/s1600/photo.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-d1fyK7sjXfo/UyOGkygIgdI/AAAAAAAAD8M/LmoaAQLeEbE/s1600/photo.jpg" height="400" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
The yarn is Drops' Verdi in a pale pink and smokey grey/brown color. </div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-0MZf8JDA1Sw/UyOHU7ulzZI/AAAAAAAAD8c/-PNe0x07rzU/s1600/DSCN3729.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-0MZf8JDA1Sw/UyOHU7ulzZI/AAAAAAAAD8c/-PNe0x07rzU/s1600/DSCN3729.JPG" height="241" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
A big fluffy ball consisting of wool, mohair and acrylic that has served as a toddler's toy, a pillow and something we all like to pet from time to time. Goodbye little furry friend!<br />
<br />
My latest project is Gundrun Johnston's <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/little-wave">Little Wave</a>. I am fascinated with the construction of this sweater. Here is the back from the Ravelry project page:<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<br />
I'm going to use Quince and Co.'s Owl in Berent's Sea:<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3JmUFq5Yf4k/UyONbnHUhvI/AAAAAAAAD9E/1f9mBPD9M-4/s1600/DSCN3732.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3JmUFq5Yf4k/UyONbnHUhvI/AAAAAAAAD9E/1f9mBPD9M-4/s1600/DSCN3732.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>

They are expecting a foot of snow in parts of New England and the morning news showed Chicago being hit with another fierce storm. We even have some snow in the Lake Tahoe area - here's me out for a walk up at Glacier Point overlooking the mountains:<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-dA-UzYZiBCM/UyB7Cbj7l4I/AAAAAAAAD7M/ihj3rPa2MO4/s1600/photo+5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-dA-UzYZiBCM/UyB7Cbj7l4I/AAAAAAAAD7M/ihj3rPa2MO4/s1600/photo+5.jpg" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
There's still time to knit hats, scarves and gloves! Here is my <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/alpine-topper">Alpine Topper</a> that I made in one day; I bought this pattern and the yarn at Halcyon Yarns in Maine when I was there last year.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-7DKPKic5uno/UyCAU7hIwBI/AAAAAAAAD78/NSVqQPrDlgk/s1600/DSCN3724.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-7DKPKic5uno/UyCAU7hIwBI/AAAAAAAAD78/NSVqQPrDlgk/s1600/DSCN3724.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<br />
This was made with Brown Sheep's Lamb's Pride Bulky as the main color and the very soft Schulana Cortina for the contrasting color which also makes a nice soft lining inside:<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-TodT0PWkgb0/UyB73n-6iyI/AAAAAAAAD7c/ls8J-W2ltgw/s1600/DSCN3711.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-TodT0PWkgb0/UyB73n-6iyI/AAAAAAAAD7c/ls8J-W2ltgw/s1600/DSCN3711.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

Here is what I have been up to:<br />
<br />

Buying baby/children's patterns at Stitches West a few weeks ago. This is <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/saffron-baby">Saffron Baby</a> from</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Elena Nodel and is sized from Newborn to 12 months. I'm shooting for the 6 month size for one little girl in particular. I also bought Hannah Fettig's <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/mini-waters-edge">mini Water's Edge</a> which is sized from 6 months to 14 years:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I have also been knitting baby hats and this one has been sent off to the little girl born in Philadelphia where they are setting all kinds of records for cold weather.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
For those wondering why I knit a blue hat for a baby girl, this is actually a pale lilac my camera stubbornly refused to duplicate. This is a free pattern from Knitting on the Net called <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/mock-cable-baby-hat">Mock Cable Baby Hat</a> and is so easy to do. The slipped stitches make the cables and eliminate the need for a cable needle.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This is also a fast knit called <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/baby-hat-with-top-knot---tegan">Tegan</a>, designed by Julie Taylor and is a free pattern on Ravelry. Just knit in the round, decrease as you reach the top and add about 12 rows of stockinette to make a top knot. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

This last hat is called <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/everyones-hat---dk">Everyone's Hat</a> by Monica Sirna because it's sized for infants to adults.</div>

<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-x3R-j2Mwus8/Uw4faUvHZYI/AAAAAAAAD4s/hmeiB62ookg/s1600/DSCN3650.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-x3R-j2Mwus8/Uw4faUvHZYI/AAAAAAAAD4s/hmeiB62ookg/s1600/DSCN3650.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Jasmin and Gigi of <a href="http://www.knitmoregirlspodcast.com/">The Knitmore Girls</a> podcast holding a Meet and Greet a the Purlesence Yarns booth. Their fans were lined up around the booth. <br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-atcu_cYMSrw/Uw4gZzw2akI/AAAAAAAAD40/wmnMlQ9MLpw/s1600/DSCN3651.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-atcu_cYMSrw/Uw4gZzw2akI/AAAAAAAAD40/wmnMlQ9MLpw/s1600/DSCN3651.jpg" height="400" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
Dr. Gemma who also has a popular podcast called CogKnitive was wearing a pretty shawl by Michelle Miller called <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/the-tehachapi-project">The Tehachapi Project </a>. <br />
<br />
So much yarn displayed beautifully including this Kauni yarn:<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-PHvmjqgY6A8/Uw4i1ORbrnI/AAAAAAAAD5A/ewZikI5s6mg/s1600/DSCN3658.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-PHvmjqgY6A8/Uw4i1ORbrnI/AAAAAAAAD5A/ewZikI5s6mg/s1600/DSCN3658.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
A friend's <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/projects/luvdragons/catkin">Catkin</a> shawl made with Madeline Tosh light:<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-on-MhFY_Ivs/Uw4ogiATqTI/AAAAAAAAD5o/VdZIzVeXRrs/s1600/DSCN3656.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-on-MhFY_Ivs/Uw4ogiATqTI/AAAAAAAAD5o/VdZIzVeXRrs/s1600/DSCN3656.JPG" height="217" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-kQNpyR6fv0c/Uw4jerHbxuI/AAAAAAAAD5Q/aaqmOy7C1ls/s1600/DSCN3655.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-kQNpyR6fv0c/Uw4jerHbxuI/AAAAAAAAD5Q/aaqmOy7C1ls/s1600/DSCN3655.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
The <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/swing-knits-autumn-fusion-shawl">Autumn Fusion Shawl </a> by Brigitte Elliott for Swing Knits. I loved this and bought the kit to make it in the colors they used, Cascade Tangier with Cascade 220 as the complimentary yarn:<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-sMnxw5xzPcg/Uw4lvSyKfaI/AAAAAAAAD5c/-NuFlQ8tUYM/s1600/DSCN3663.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-sMnxw5xzPcg/Uw4lvSyKfaI/AAAAAAAAD5c/-NuFlQ8tUYM/s1600/DSCN3663.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
So many interesting possibilities with this project using variegated yarns such as Zauberball.<br />
<br />
<br />
And here is what I am up to:<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-BYj5N5SViIs/Uw4pIr2c3WI/AAAAAAAAD5w/iXTzgn7WA_0/s1600/DSCN3617.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-BYj5N5SViIs/Uw4pIr2c3WI/AAAAAAAAD5w/iXTzgn7WA_0/s1600/DSCN3617.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
A baby hat called <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/everyones-hat---dk">Everyone's Hat</a> because the sizing goes up to adults. <br />
<br />
Another baby hat from Purl Soho called <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/garter-ear-flap-hat">The Garter Ear Flap</a> hat for next winter. Haven't started this one yet:<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-TPELb4DQApU/Uw4sC2c3otI/AAAAAAAAD58/KmPsecY_1g8/s1600/garter-stitch-hat-600-2_medium2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-TPELb4DQApU/Uw4sC2c3otI/AAAAAAAAD58/KmPsecY_1g8/s1600/garter-stitch-hat-600-2_medium2.jpg" height="400" width="308" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
And now it's on to <a href="http://tamisamis.blogspot.com/">Tami's </a>blog to see what my fellow knitters are up to.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />

As usual, way too much to see, touch and visually absorb; you could actually just stand outside the entrance to the center and watch the fashion show that was going on there:<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-4HzSd7YMr4o/Uwqgu1EEBdI/AAAAAAAAD2U/xWy5lCvGd5U/s1600/photo.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-4HzSd7YMr4o/Uwqgu1EEBdI/AAAAAAAAD2U/xWy5lCvGd5U/s1600/photo.jpg" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
This woman was walking in front of me and was kind enough to let me take a picture of her fabulous dress called <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/swing-dress">The Swing Dress.</a> She probably told me what yarn she used but I can't remember as I was too busy looking at the her beautiful knit work.<br />
<br />
What follows are some random pictures I took, working my way through the thousands of people who were there. I'll start with the Knitters Booth and go from there:<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-eMOkaBtHgs0/UwqiSsli5KI/AAAAAAAAD2g/rjJxmQsQJcw/s1600/DSCN3657.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-eMOkaBtHgs0/UwqiSsli5KI/AAAAAAAAD2g/rjJxmQsQJcw/s1600/DSCN3657.JPG" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-n5JHrw9UykY/Uwqistf-zRI/AAAAAAAAD2o/4RkXCdFurYM/s1600/DSCN3632.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-n5JHrw9UykY/Uwqistf-zRI/AAAAAAAAD2o/4RkXCdFurYM/s1600/DSCN3632.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
The Yarn Over truck was there from Southern Cal:<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-nT5m0n-LXAM/UwqjEjIYN7I/AAAAAAAAD2w/Voczo4kTubg/s1600/DSCN3623.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-nT5m0n-LXAM/UwqjEjIYN7I/AAAAAAAAD2w/Voczo4kTubg/s1600/DSCN3623.JPG" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
Stopped at Miss Babs and saw this really striking <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/cameo-8">Cameo</a> shawlette:<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-yD6vqEhd5b0/Uwqj5lU3rPI/AAAAAAAAD3A/bWIBZ15ipHw/s1600/DSCN3634.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-yD6vqEhd5b0/Uwqj5lU3rPI/AAAAAAAAD3A/bWIBZ15ipHw/s1600/DSCN3634.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Thought about buying the yarn there, but when I saw the long line, I decided to try another vendor and I'm glad I waited because I stopped by The Plucky Knitter and look what I found in a big basket marked One Hit Wonders:<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-4xWgmcwO98o/UwqkfxfeRCI/AAAAAAAAD3I/bTSi-jTxY8c/s1600/DSCN3661.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-4xWgmcwO98o/UwqkfxfeRCI/AAAAAAAAD3I/bTSi-jTxY8c/s1600/DSCN3661.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
A merino fingering weight yarn with a little bit of cashmere and it is so soft! I stopped by here on Friday and I heard from a number of people that this booth was insanely busy Thursday night. Lines around the next row of vendors! This is a very popular vendor and their yarn is really lovely.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-pjZligu0CY0/UwqmhnU-tCI/AAAAAAAAD3U/qc4Eb2fDAwI/s1600/DSCN3630.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-pjZligu0CY0/UwqmhnU-tCI/AAAAAAAAD3U/qc4Eb2fDAwI/s1600/DSCN3630.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
The <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/leftie">Leftie shawlette</a> was everywhere. This is a sample I saw at the Miss Babs booth. Here are a few more examples:<br />
<br />

Rachael Herron was there to promote her books. Her latest, <i>Pack Up The Moon </i>will be released in March.<br />

So much more to talk about but I am running out of time for now. More photos later. Goodbye from California where it was in the 70's on Friday and I was way overdressed in my wool sweater at Stitches. Those of you back East, send us some of that snow - we need the water!<br />

The quilt on the back of the bench is in the process of being sewn by our quilting instructor. All of this is done by hand - no sewing machines! She takes her time and said it would be take about 4 years for her to finish this king sized quilt.<br />

Found a nice boot topper project to use up some of my stash yarn. It's the <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/wavy-cable-boot-toppers">Wavy Cable Boot Topper </a>pattern by Robin Nickerson and it's a free pattern on Ravelry:<br />

The weather was warm and tropical and unlike other trips to Maui where we headed straight for the beach and plopped ourselves down for a week and did blissfully nothing, we decided to see the Hawaii <a href="http://www.nps.gov/havo/index.htm">Volcanoes National Park</a> located near Hilo on the other side of the island. What an incredible experience! We did the Kilauea Iki hike down through a lush rain forest area, across the lava crater floor, back into another rain forest area and then through a lava tube, all in the course of five hours! At times we felt we were on the set of Jurassic Park and then on the surface of another planet. Here are just some of the many pictures we took:<br />
<br />
The active Kilauea volcano, seen best at night:<br />

<br />
Stopped at Punalu'u Black Sand Beach which is made of lava chips and saw the sea turtles who like to go there and rest:<br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
Stopped for some lunch at What's Shakin' and had an interesting fruit called Rambutan, which we encountered at just about every meal throughout the week. It's actually a bland kind of fruit - do you think they serve this just for the tourists?<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-BHOvPu_dGeg/Uux5_mILjKI/AAAAAAAADoc/Le7uDvV9Bx8/s1600/photo.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-BHOvPu_dGeg/Uux5_mILjKI/AAAAAAAADoc/Le7uDvV9Bx8/s1600/photo.jpg" height="400" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
A few more short hikes and then it was on to The Four Seasons in Kailua-Kona for some sun, swimming, golfing and wonderful meals. Here's the view from our room at sunset one night:<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-rCKdFT6dhq4/UuxslOo2iII/AAAAAAAADn8/uQk3yGR9tTI/s1600/DSCN3588.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-rCKdFT6dhq4/UuxslOo2iII/AAAAAAAADn8/uQk3yGR9tTI/s1600/DSCN3588.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Another sunset:<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
And there was even some time for knitting. I managed to work on one sock for my husband with Opal sock yarn in their Vincent Van Gogh series. This yarn is named Gaugin's Chair after one of the Van Gogh paintings:<br />

I have one finished object to show that I made in one day - a record for me, even for the easiest projects!<br />
This is the <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/anthropologie-inspired-pom-pom-hat">Anthropologie Inspired Hat</a> designed by Jessica Parsons-Taylor of the Is and Was blog.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I took this picture with my Snowflake scarf and used the leftover Linie Iceland bulky yarn from my scarf project to make this hat. Knit on size 11 needles in garter stitch it works up in no time, but the best part was making the pom pom which turned out big and fluffy and so cute!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Here is Jessica's version:</div>

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Got a chance to see the new <a href="https://www.virtualyarns.com/store/books/tudor-roses/">Tudor Roses</a> book this week. This is the updated version of Alice Starmore's book and there are some absolutely gorgeous patterns in there, but it is not for the faint of heart! They have included some new patterns and made the original ones more contemporary with more pared down versions of the designs. I imagine someone will be selling kits to make these.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<br />
Using size 11 needles and a simple mistake rib pattern, it worked up quickly while I sat glued to the TV yesterday watching the Cris Christie saga unfold on CNN. Blocking the traffic on the George Washington, the nation's busiest bridge, for four days to retaliate against Ft. Lee's mayor for political reasons -- what where these people thinking? <br />
<br />
Here's a few pictures of my scarf:<br />

Here's another picture of my Rascal Raccoon Sweater, this time with our own little rascal wearing it, my grandson:<br />

<br />
One more finished project, for FO Friday. My <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/common-ground">Common Ground</a> sweater:<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
This was made with a Gaelic Chunky yarn that has since been discontinued. The yarn called for was Cascade's Eco Wool and this is a little heavier, but it has come in handy for these cold mornings. A nice easy top down project with great directions from <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/sources/the-brown-stitch">Elizabeth Smith</a> and minimal finishing. Nothing to sew together, no buttons! Her patterns are all so easy!<br />

The weather was great! Warm and sunny and many of us actually put down our knitting and went for a walk through the beautiful grounds around the retreat center (sorry East Coast and just about all of the rest of the country - don't hate us because we're California!) One of our knitters, Barbara Cordes, is a very talented photographer and she took the following pictures:</div>

Needless to say, there were a lot of talented knitters there and my friend KnittyBarb was there with her beautiful <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/projects/knittybarb/dreambird-kal">Dreambird</a> shawl. Couldn't resist posting another picture of her wearing this!<br />

<br />
Spent part of the time this weekend working on a scarf for my daughter who lives in Colorado where they are having lots of snow. I'm using a nice yarn called On Linie 97 Iceland which looks like yarn covered with snowflakes. This is a simple mistake rib stitch pattern.<br />

<br />
We really enjoyed our new retreat venue; the St. Francis Retreat Center is in an amazing location, the meals were great and we are already planning to come back next year!<br />

I hope the weather starts warming up around the country and that everyone finds time to knit and enjoy the time indoors with their kids who are oh so happy about days off from school in this extreme weather.<br />

People are getting out their credit cards to scrape the ice off their windshields; boy does that bring back memories! Of course during the day it has been going up to 50 or so, but for us wimpy Californians, that's cold! The weathermen/women here are having a field day - they are so excited to really have something to talk about!<br />
<br />

Our Christmas tree ( which my husband and kids cut down themselves!) is set up and decorated. Looking good! I have done most of my Christmas shopping and have actually wrapped many of the presents. The Christmas cards have been ordered, complete with pictures of our entire family. Now time for a little knitting.<br />
<br />
I finished the scarf I was making for the Red Scarf Project which is part of <a href="http://www.fc2success.org/programs/red-scarf-project-and-book-club/">Foster Care for Success</a> and mailed it off last week. I attached a note of encouragement to the young woman or man who gets it and I hope they enjoy it. The yarn is Filatura de Crosa's Adhoc which is wool and alpaca and, hopefully, will keep them warm for a long time.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-wmhqekuCG8A/Up_FQku3niI/AAAAAAAADfY/nKAFOT_LxLQ/s1600/DSCN3346.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-wmhqekuCG8A/Up_FQku3niI/AAAAAAAADfY/nKAFOT_LxLQ/s400/DSCN3346.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
Unfortunately, not all my knitting projects have gone smoothly: the <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/rascal-racoon-pullover">Rascal Raccoon Pullover</a> was on time out for a week until I had time to redo the neckline - it was too small for my grandson. I had hoped to have it done by now, but I just finished the backstitching which was time consuming, sewed on the button eyes and nose and now I just need to finish putting it together.<br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I picked up this book by Linda Greenlaw called <i>The Lobster Chronicles</i>. It's about her life living on a small island in Maine and working as a lobster woman. Some of you may remember her as the woman who had her own swordfish boat in the movie The Perfect Storm with George Clooney. Actually, she wasn't in the movie but the character was based on her. It really is a cute book and I'm enjoying it. There seems to be alot of interest in Maine this year and if you haven't gotten your fill, you may be able to find this at a used book store; I think it came out about ten years ago.</div>

They were kind enough to let me post some pictures.<br />
<br />
This is my friend Barb's <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/projects/knittybarb/dreambird-kal">dreambird</a> shawl - isn't this gorgeous! I took these pictures with my IPhone so apologies for the quality! <br />

Here is Mary in her <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/projects/KnitAdmin/cassidy">Cassidy</a> sweater and look at the cute ribbon with the little dog paw prints that she used on the back of the buttonholes:<br />

If you have ever wondered why knitters avoid intarsia like the plague and you rarely see a pattern for this kind of knitting, here's why:<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-bWg_iiIMbTY/UnrPABbUarI/AAAAAAAADc4/0cTtusYLlvs/s1600/DSCN3322.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-bWg_iiIMbTY/UnrPABbUarI/AAAAAAAADc4/0cTtusYLlvs/s400/DSCN3322.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Yikes! What a mess! Intarsia for those who are not familiar with this technique, is a way to knit patterns into a sweater using blocks of one color yarn and then moving onto another color block with a different color. Unlike Fair Isle where you carry just two colors along the entire row, you can have a number of different colors going at one time. You are picking up one color, knitting stitches within that pattern and then dropping that yarn to pick up another to fill in another part of the pattern. Here is the front and back and what it will look like when done:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-NQdufaE2ywQ/UnrRQgyuQaI/AAAAAAAADdE/g_c2pBe6uEk/s1600/DSCN3320.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-NQdufaE2ywQ/UnrRQgyuQaI/AAAAAAAADdE/g_c2pBe6uEk/s400/DSCN3320.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-NcDSrGLtH9s/UnrS8BdzPyI/AAAAAAAADdU/M-I_cRU_qZ4/s1600/DSCN3318.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-NcDSrGLtH9s/UnrS8BdzPyI/AAAAAAAADdU/M-I_cRU_qZ4/s400/DSCN3318.JPG" width="385" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I don't have alot of experience with this type of knitting ( does anyone?) and I am sure there will be some knitters who will be thinking there is a neater way to do this, but I just plunged into this project and I have to say it has been fun to do -- really!! Does anyone remember when the Rowan pattern books would be filled with these patterns? </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I picked up <i>Knitting Lessons </i>by Lela Nargi in a used book store recently and I am really enjoying it. It is a book of short stories about knitting, beautifully and thoughtfully told by knitters you have never heard of and some that you will know: Vickie Howell, Trisha Malcolm, Teva Durham, Edith Eig. Who is Edith Eig? She was the owner of the famous La Knitterie Parisienne yarn shop located close to Hollywood and a favorite hangout for knitters in the entertainment industry such as producers, directors, actresses and other woman in "The Industry". I especially enjoyed the stories of people learning to knit and how they came to be interested in knitting.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<i><br /></i></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I think this is a book that all knitters would enjoy and you can just pick it up and read it at any time.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
To see what other knitters are working on, head over to <a href="http://tamisamis.blogspot.com/">Tami's blog</a> and read about their experiences.</div>

The trees have shed their leaves, but what a pretty sight they were:<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Xx7yxlCV_Ck/UnQTO1ZsvqI/AAAAAAAADb4/6kKYS3-Qc6I/s1600/IMG_3622.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Xx7yxlCV_Ck/UnQTO1ZsvqI/AAAAAAAADb4/6kKYS3-Qc6I/s640/IMG_3622.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>

<br />
<br />
My <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/sibella-pullover">Sibella </a>is finished, and I am pleased with how it turned out. It was a pretty easy knit and Quince and Co.'s Chickadee yarn was so nice to work with. The color is Bird's Egg:<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-UWjOCUdKpXs/UnQTvxTdDSI/AAAAAAAADcA/Q_37ozTChHw/s1600/DSCN3307.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-UWjOCUdKpXs/UnQTvxTdDSI/AAAAAAAADcA/Q_37ozTChHw/s400/DSCN3307.JPG" width="378" /></a></div>

<br />
<br />
Here is my current project, the <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/rascal-racoon-pullover">Rascal Raccoon Pullover</a> by Celeste Pinheiro. It's a raccoon worked in intarsia, so there are lots of messy ends to work with, but this is a labor of love for my grandson, so it's worth it!<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
I'm using Plymouth Encore Worsted which is the yarn used in this project and it's mostly acrylic so I hope it holds up well to washing and general use by an active three year old.<br />
<br />
Happy <a href="http://wonderwhyalpacafarm.blogspot.com/">Fiber Arts Friday</a> and have a great weekend! Check out some other finished projects at<a href="http://tamisamis.blogspot.com/"> Tami's</a> blog as well.<br />

There will be minimal seaming and once I knit the neck, I will be done! You knit the body in the round and then knit the sleeves separately and knit them to the body at the start of the yoke:<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I hope to have this done in the next week and will post a picture here. In the meantime, I am planning on knitting a scarf for the <a href="http://www.fc2success.org/programs/red-scarf-project-and-book-club/">Foster Care to Success College Fund</a> Red Scarf project. This is an organization that helps foster children who have aged out of the foster system and are pretty much on their own. They provide emotional and financial support for those kids that are now enrolled in college and who need help with everything from money for textbooks, to paying for clothing, food and emergency car repairs. The Red Scarf project is a popular program and over the years many knitters have knit scarves in varying shades of red to show their support for these kids as well as sending along a note of encouragement as well as donating to the Fund. All scarves have to be finished and delivered by December 1st and I am hoping to make two. Here is the yarn I am using for the first one, in a burgundy shade:</div>

I've been enjoying various blog posts about vacations and there have been some wonderful pictures to go along with them, like <a href="http://www.woolythyme.typepad.com/">woolythyme's</a> trip to Africa and along the Maine Coast, <a href="http://ezisus.blogspot.com/">Gale Zucker's</a> blog about her trip to Maine (Maine was very popular this summer!) and, of course, any photos that are posted by<a href="http://www.loritimesfive.blogspot.com/"> loritimes five</a>. If you don't follow her blog, head over there to take a peek; she is a really amazing photographer and a very fine knitter.<br />
<br />
We took a trip to Southern California for a wedding and made a trip to the Mission at San Juan Capistrano, home of the swallows who return every March from South America:<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ZVdGLdt_vGw/UjEDNgozTKI/AAAAAAAADZQ/479_VKcDIMg/s1600/photo.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ZVdGLdt_vGw/UjEDNgozTKI/AAAAAAAADZQ/479_VKcDIMg/s640/photo.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
The mission built a huge church and it was the pride of the mission system, but unfortunately, it was destroyed in the earthquake of 1812 and was never rebuilt. The remains of the church are still there and it is to that spot that the swallows come back every year to build their nests in the ruins of the church walls:<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-yxTDQbYeC1k/UjEDdC72deI/AAAAAAAADZY/xj27KSO5PI0/s1600/cliffswallow.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-yxTDQbYeC1k/UjEDdC72deI/AAAAAAAADZY/xj27KSO5PI0/s400/cliffswallow.jpg" width="278" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
These are the original bells from the church:<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Aa3-tpPKBwc/UjEEhkoLwgI/AAAAAAAADZk/2Qpf8TRO1bc/s1600/photo.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Aa3-tpPKBwc/UjEEhkoLwgI/AAAAAAAADZk/2Qpf8TRO1bc/s400/photo.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
One of my favorite things to do in the summer is to go to our nearby lake, get in some swimming and sit in the sun and read. Here are a couple of books that I read this summer:<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-tPRAnEG3uLw/UjEFsnZz5bI/AAAAAAAADZw/5sfhF22PC5M/s1600/DSCN3260.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-tPRAnEG3uLw/UjEFsnZz5bI/AAAAAAAADZw/5sfhF22PC5M/s400/DSCN3260.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
The End of Your Life Book Club is really a wonderful book and not at all depressing, despite the title. If you are a reader, you will enjoy this story of a son and his mother who read voraciously and discuss the books throughout this story. At the end of the book is a list of all the books mentioned and I marked off the ones I wanted to read as I went along.<br />
<br />
And, oh yes, I did a little knitting, including the following projects:<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/freeport-shawl-collar-vest">The Freeport Vest</a> by Elizabeth Smith:<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
A pair of Opal Nightlife socks:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And my current project, Carrie Bostick Hoge's <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/sibella-pullover">Sibella:</a></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I'm using Quince and Co's Chickadee yarn in the color Bird's Egg. Not much to look at yet, so here's a picture of Carrie's sweater:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>

<br />
<br />
A little more detail:<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-B92cuXT37H0/UjEK9xBWVNI/AAAAAAAADao/pqEIfARfPkI/s1600/DSCN3262.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-B92cuXT37H0/UjEK9xBWVNI/AAAAAAAADao/pqEIfARfPkI/s400/DSCN3262.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
That's it for now; looking forward to catching up with what everyone else has been knitting!<br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Well, I know this happens to all of us. I'm finishing up my Montague Vest which was a pretty easy project and I'm feeling pretty good about all this when I went and tried it on and stood in front of the mirror and realized this just does not look good on me! I took it off and tried it on again the next morning to see if things had improved (perhaps my body shape had changed overnight?) and came to the realization that this is just not going to work for me. For starters, it's a little too big, even though I did knit a swatch and got gauge ( I thought) but the yarn used in the project was Tahki Montana and the unlabeled Tess' Yarn from my stash looks alot more chunky than the intended effect. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-P28RRTk63UA/UebqH-1gK7I/AAAAAAAADYI/BvW0QBG2RKk/s1600/DSCN3022.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-P28RRTk63UA/UebqH-1gK7I/AAAAAAAADYI/BvW0QBG2RKk/s400/DSCN3022.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I'm going to let it sit in my project bag for awhile until I decide what to do next. I like the yarn and actually envisioned knitting a jacket with it while I was working away on this vest; perhaps this yarn is better suited for something like that. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Anyway, on to my current work in progress: the <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/freeport-shawl-collar-vest">Freeport Vest</a>:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-xnMdFHoqxuU/UebrvGlYWEI/AAAAAAAADYY/hQ39QR8t9hk/s1600/DSCN3035.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-xnMdFHoqxuU/UebrvGlYWEI/AAAAAAAADYY/hQ39QR8t9hk/s400/DSCN3035.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This is really an easy project that is knit in the round using Elizabeth Zimmerman's "Phony Seam" which I have done for the first time. You can see how to do it <a href="http://thebrownstitch.com/techniques/">here</a> on Elizabeth Smith's web site. It's pretty easy to do and I think will produce a nicer fitting vest.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-w7bCaEL5yjs/UebsVVMOhkI/AAAAAAAADYg/5Ep-hsbFA-c/s1600/DSCN3039.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-w7bCaEL5yjs/UebsVVMOhkI/AAAAAAAADYg/5Ep-hsbFA-c/s400/DSCN3039.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I'm using the yarn that she used for this project, Brown Sheep's Lamb's Pride Bulky:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-atnvM3Anbcw/UebuBfhTV2I/AAAAAAAADY0/nrFhp6cix1E/s1600/DSCN3037.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-atnvM3Anbcw/UebuBfhTV2I/AAAAAAAADY0/nrFhp6cix1E/s400/DSCN3037.JPG" width="251" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-GbQPkLnxBmE/UebuA0ydGOI/AAAAAAAADYw/bC7KI2K0vag/s1600/DSCN3041.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-GbQPkLnxBmE/UebuA0ydGOI/AAAAAAAADYw/bC7KI2K0vag/s400/DSCN3041.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Yes, another project with bulky yarn, hopefully, with a better outcome! Head over to <a href="http://tamisamis.blogspot.com/">Tami's blog</a> to see what some really talented knitters are up to. <br />

<br />
<br />
In the midst of this sweltering heat, I am finishing up my chunky wool <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/montague-bulky-lace-vest">Montague Vest</a> and I keep thinking about my trip to Maine and those cool breezes along the ocean where I walked every day:<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-QZmdAhsznHc/UdRXtEQb0JI/AAAAAAAADVs/QwLZvv6wrcg/s1600/IMG_0480.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-QZmdAhsznHc/UdRXtEQb0JI/AAAAAAAADVs/QwLZvv6wrcg/s640/IMG_0480.JPG" width="640" /></a><br />

<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-c8JTvnvcvdo/UdRYZzdDw3I/AAAAAAAADV0/h53XRcdbOTk/s1600/DSCN2840.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-c8JTvnvcvdo/UdRYZzdDw3I/AAAAAAAADV0/h53XRcdbOTk/s640/DSCN2840.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
I'm also starting to read this book called <i>Maine </i>by J. Courtney Sullivan about a family with three generations summering at their house in Cape Neddick:<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-dFTDDu6Ir2g/UdReergsUYI/AAAAAAAADXA/_oGIjJW3vwc/s1600/DSCN3016.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-dFTDDu6Ir2g/UdReergsUYI/AAAAAAAADXA/_oGIjJW3vwc/s320/DSCN3016.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
And every morning I walk into my kitchen and see this:<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-3DQb88PtDiI/UdRe3XDaylI/AAAAAAAADXI/smsEZq53pDE/s1600/DSCN3005.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-3DQb88PtDiI/UdRe3XDaylI/AAAAAAAADXI/smsEZq53pDE/s400/DSCN3005.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
All of this has gotten me in the mood to ditch this heavy woolen knitting once I finish this vest and do another easy summer project like this cotton Sanibel Cowl which is a free project on Ravelry:<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
<br />
Is anyone else a big fan of Gale Zucker's blog, <a href="http://ezisus.blogspot.com/">she shoots sheep shots</a>? Go check out her latest post on a road trip to Maine; what a great time she had! Gale is a professional photographer as well as a fellow knitter and her photos are wonderful of sheep and wool in Down East Maine as well as some great yard sale finds. Here's a picture of their camping spot:<br />
