The Color Orange

Well, according to Pantone, the group that determines what colors are hot each year for the fashion industry, Tangerine Orange is the color for 2012.  Oh, I am so ready for 2012!  Check out this scarf that I bought recently:

                                                                           

Here is my Brady Scarf that I am making with Kauni Effektgarn.  I was knitting this on a plane trip this past week and alot of people were fascinated  by the design and wanted to know how to make the holes.  It's a simple garter stitch pattern where you just decrease on one row and then cast one the same number of stitches on the next row to make the holes:

This is a cotton nylon blend and is so soft, but I have no idea what to make with it.  Perhaps another scarf?
I have a feeling that my granddaughter would love a soft fuzzy sweater made from this.

Saw this Kristen Nicholas bag somewhere and I just love it.  Got to try making some of those flowers she does so well:

                                                                                     

And now a heartbreaking story about my Sweetheart Pullover.  I finished it last week and sent it off to my granddaughter for her to wear to school on Valentine's Day.  The padded envelope arrived, but it was ripped open and the bag was empty!  There was a sticker from the Denver Post Office saying that the bag had arrived that way!  Here is a picture of the finished sweater; I filed a claim and maybe it will show up.

Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Please Let It Snow

                                                                             

                                                                   Yes, but where?


Welcome to Lake Tahoe, a Winter Wonderland, a mecca for skiers, snowboarders and California families who want their kids to see what snow looks like.  Guess what, it hasn't seriously snowed (I'm talking a foot or more) since before Thanksgiving around here so for those visiting, get your butt over to the bike rental/ former ski rental shop and get some exercise and have fun!  The biking is out there!

The big resorts, like Squaw Valley and Northstar make snow and I hear they are doing pretty well.   Shaun White, the snowboard star,  is calling Northstar his home base this winter and their snowboard park is supposed to be really awesome., but for the smaller areas that don't make snow, it's been a bummer:

   The sleeves look short, but I have been assured that the drop sleeves will add several inches to them.                                                                                 

Just started knitting The Brady Scarf with Kauni Effektgarn yarn that I bought at Stitches West last year.

Keeping Up With the Knitmore Girls

I like to listen to podcasts when I am out and about in my car.  The news is too depressing, the financial news even worse and  I can't bear listening to those talking heads shouting at each other.  I always like to check in with Jasmine and Gigi's podcast, The Knitmore Girls.   We go way back when we were all knitting at the only local shop around, The Rug and Yarn Hut in Campbell,  which has since gone out of business.  Here's Jasmine who I have known since she was a teenager.  She's now married and expecting her first baby:

                                                                                             



They are amazingly consistent, never letting a week go by without podcasting on a range of topics from knitting, spinning, sewing and weaving.  Between the two of them they can answer just about any question on these subjects and are always currently involved with a project  for all of them.  Like all of us, many of these projects are UFO's, but here is a sample of what they have been knitting in the last month:

                                                                                   

This is Jasmin's Sothia by Robin Ulrich and I love the ruffles which evidentally took forever but I love the look.  Jasmin is also working on the Breezy Cardigan by Hannah Fetig and Gigi is working on Odelia by Julie Weisenberger:

 Jasmin is expecting her baby the end of January so their podcast will be on hold for awhile but they will be at Stitches West with the new baby at the Purlesence booth so you can stop by to meet the newest Knitmore Girl. (yes, it's a girl)

This is from the AslanTrends pattern book Seasons Change.  I saw a sample of the Oblique Shawl at my favorite shop in Denver,  The Lamb Shoppe  and tried it on.  I loved the way it fit and it was so soft and warm:
